About lb r&R
In 2013 about 144,000 American horses were killed due to slaughter according to the Animal Welfare Institute and in the year 2020, about 36,000 American horses were trucked over our borders to be slaughtered for human consumption according to ASPCA.
Slaughter for horses does not provide a humane and peaceful death. Not only is it the worst nightmare for a horse, but it's also been proven to be environmentally damaging as well as economically draining to the communities that have housed them. The Humane Society states “U.S. horse meat is dangerous to humans because of the unregulated administration of numerous toxic substances to horses before slaughter.” as well as “In the U.S. horses are raised and treated as companion animals, not as food-producing animals. Unlike animals raised for food, the vast majority of horses sent to slaughter will have ingested, or been treated or injected with, multiple chemical substances that are known to be dangerous to humans, untested on humans, or specifically prohibited for use in animals raised for human consumption.”
These animals have done so much for us over the years by plowing our fields, tending to our land, taking us through battle, and providing us transportation. The last thing we should do to them is brutally kill and disregard these animals. We should live in a world where these animals are appreciated for the work they do for us and they deserve to live out their lives happy.
Established in 2019, Ladybug ranch rescued our first 4 horses from slaughter and were not stopping there! Right now were working on becoming a non-profit so that we can take in more horses at one time! To find out more about the people behind the rescue and how to donate keep scrolling!
